This is Gaston. He was one of three
rubber ducks that were given to the girls Water Polo team by the Holiday Inn
Express where we stayed for games one weekend. Being given this duck almost seemed to me to be a sign to use this little guy in my blog. He also represents a bond that I have with my teammates for we all kept and named ( all french names) a rubber duck. I decided to take
this little guy to The Crossings to document a day in the life of
Gaston. I chose The Crossings because it is a place that I would go to get away
from stress and just relax. Most of the time I like to just walk till I find a bench
that I can sit and stare out into the water, but on occasion running around on the playground is always fun too.
When Gaston arrived at the park, the first thing he wanted was to have a quick look around to see what was there to do. He, of course, soon noticed the pond and, right away, started to waddle towards the body of water.
On the way over to the pond, Gaston saw two of friends and waddled over quickly to see if they would like to join him.
Together Gaston and his two buddies walked over to the pond.
When Gaston reached the pond he was saddened to see that there was no swimming allowed. He knew that he personally could have gotten away with it, being a duck and all, but he didn't want to leave his friends behind.
Gaston settled for waddling along the water.Occasionally taking a quick splash when the wind created little waves that splashed on the shore of the pond.
The water combined with the wind was a little chilly so, Gaston would take little breaks and find a nice sunny spot on the grass in the sunlight.
Gaston found a nice rock that let him have a nice look over the whole pond.
Gaston and his friends decided it was time to see what else they could do at The Crossings.
They found a near by playground and decided it was the perfect place to run around and burn off some energy.
Gaston's favorite thing to do at the the playground was to play on the swings. He loves the swings because to him it feels like flying. Especially when he accidentally flings himself off of the swing.
Gaston also enjoyed playing a game of hide-in-seek with a little boy he met. Gaston was pretty good at hiding.
The last thing Gaston needed to do before leaving the playground was to go down the slide a couple of times with his friends.
After an exciting time at the playground, Gaston and his buddies walked over to a near by table to take a break and relax.
Before starting his long waddle back home, Gaston quickly gets a drink of water to rehydrate himself.

Cally I think your story is so cute! I really like the way that you position Gaston in all the pictures. Even though he's not right in the center and taking up lots of space he always pops out from the pictures and becomes the focus. I really really like the composition of the picture of him on the rock. I think it's a good picture and it works with the duck in the picture. I also really like the picture of him on the swing. I'm not sure if the swing is actually moving but the way the picture is taken even if it wasn't there is a feeling of "motion" to it that I really like.
ReplyDeleteI found this blog very interesting. I liked the writing that went along with the pictures. The writing made Gaston seem like a living talking person, not a plastic toy. I also really liked the pictures where Gaston was in the forefront and the background was less in focus. This can really be seen in the second picture. it makes one feel as if they are seeing what the toy duck is seeing and are just as ready to begin the adventure with him. I also found the pictures where Gaston was in natural duck settings, such as the pond, very funny.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this blog not only because the idea behind it was adorable, but the photos really drew a person's attention to Gaston. The angles that you took the pictures from helped have the duck stand out. I really liked the pictures when he was near the water because the light that reflected on the water really created a nice ambiance to the overall photograph. This can be seen in the sixth photograph. Also, I like that Gaston was somehow always in the spotlight in a way, and not always front and center in the photograph but had to find him at times, like the one on the play ground playing hide and seek.
ReplyDeleteI found this blog very cute. I really enjoyed how you made the duck jump out in all of your pictures. The lighting in your pictures is also very well done. My favorite picture was the one where the duck just starts to enter the water. The way the lighting hits the water, but also the duck standing out makes it a very strong photo. I also thought that the story line was well done to make it look like he was a part of your group of friends and not a rubber duck was very fun and interesting to read.
