My Dogs-A Documentary by Brittany Petersen

I chose to create a documentary project about my dogs, as well as my sister's dog, because they mean so much to me.  My dogs' names are Andy and Angel and my sister's dog's name is Skylar.  Dogs play such an important role in human life and they are such great companions.  At times, dogs can be a human's best friend.  They almost get the same kind of attention a human would give a baby if they really love their dog that much.  My sister and her fiance are just starting out as a couple out on their own and will be getting married in a couple years. They treat this dog as if she is a child to them.  I think it is so cute.  Sometimes I wish dogs could talk so that we could really hear what they think when we're talking to them or picking them up or playing with them.

Dogs are apart of the family. You feed them, bathe them, play with them, enjoy their company, sometimes even take naps together.  There are dogs all over the world and they all have something unique about them which makes them important to the family that owns them, if they have an owner.  There are small dogs, big dogs, and medium dogs.  Usually the type and size of the dog are extremely similar to a person's personality.

My Dogs:

Andy is a 7 year old Chihuahua and Jack Russell Terrier mix.  My family got him from Noah's Ark Rescue Group.  We're not entirely sure what kind of background he had before we got him but we always make sure to give him an environment in which he is loved to death.  He let's me carry him around and enjoys the attention I always give him.  My boyfriend and I play with him all the time and he does this thing we call the "army crawl".  The "army crawl" is when we get him to drag his back two feet and his stomach on the ground.  It always comes with a good laugh.  He is a very fun dog to be around and I love him so much.  I probably treat this dog as my baby sometimes.  It might be a little sad but I don't care.  He's always around and such a fun dog to have.  He may be kinda mean at times when he growls and doesn't want to be touched.  But who could blame him?  He sleeps all the time and when someone tries to pick him up he's mad at first because he was just sleeping.  It's totally understandable.

Andy

Angel is a 15 year old Jack Russell and Rat Terrier mix.  She has been in my family since I was 7 years old.  She was such a fun puppy when she was younger but unfortunately she is getting older and more fragile.  Currently, she is fully blind in one eye and partially blind in another.  She is also partially deaf. She has been in our family for so long, we don't want to lose her.  She is so cute though and really enjoys all the attention she can get.  She is a little bit harder to take care of now that she's older and fragile, but we still enjoy her company.  I will be completely heart broken when she passes.  She will always be my first pet.  The sad part about her is that because she is blind she runs into walls or chairs and it just breaks my heart every time I hear that.

Angel

Skylar is a 2 year old Red Nose Pitbull Terrier. She is my sister and her fiance's dog.  They rescued her from a person who would keep her locked in a bedroom all day by herself and would barely feed her or play with her.  As a puppy, it is so crucial that the puppy get accustomed to a good home and living and it was perfect timing that my sister and her fiance were able to find her when they did.  Now Skylar lives with them in their apartment and she receives nothing but love.  She loves to play with people and with her toys.  She is such a playful and loving dog.  My sister and her fiance love this dog so much and they have so much fun with her.  I think they do a great job in taking care of her and they did an excellent job in rescuing her from the home she came from.

  2. I enjoy that the pictures are in black and white in this project. The only thing that would have been great, but probably very hard to capture, is if you got an image of your dog Andy doing the army crawl. Other then that your images went along perfectly with what you were saying.

  3. I really like how the whole thing is in grayscale. It gives your whole project a nostalgic mood. That, accompanied by your heart felt descriptions and back stories is really fitting and works well as a documentary.

  4. I thought that this project was good because it was of something that was important to the author. I can tell from reading the text that talked about each individual dog that the author really cared about her dogs and has fully integrated them as part of the family. I enjoyed reading this project because it made me think of my dogs at home that i have not seen in a long time.

  5. I really like the grayscale, because the black and whites are really rich and deep rather than flat. It was really touching to read and I think you captured all that emotion in your pictures.

  6. These pictures are very nice. I really like the black and white scale, it really gives the pictures a nice rich look. I also like the fact that you chose this project because you have a passion for dogs and the emotion you have for them was shown very well in the pictures.

  8. I really enjoyed this project because it shows how your dogs are such a big part of your life and what they really mean to you. The pictures are of good quality and putting them into black and white in my opinion added more emotion to your pictures and your story. Great post!
