The
topic that I chose to write about for this documentary is the process of a post
-season workout in women’s basketball.
In the photos taken, I have taken step by step photos to show what a player
does to get ready for a workout, and photos to show what the workout is
like. Each individual player has their
own unique routine that they do to get ready for a workout, but when its time
for the workout everyone must be on the same page.
Out of all the topics in the world,
you may be wondering why I choose this topic? I choose this topic because I am
also an athlete on the women’s basketball team and I am very passionate about
what I do, and I love showing my dedication as well as the hard work my
teammates and I put in. I also choose
this topic because all of my time is spent training and working out and I felt
it would be inspirational to someone else that may need that extra motivation
to achieve their workout goals.
As much as the pictures show hard
work and what its like to workout in the off season there is an underlying
importance about the photos. My team is
my family away from home. We spend so
much time together that we are all basically like sisters to one another. Even though these pictures show one person
working out, during the time when we are all working out together we push each
other and motivate each other to get better.
The pictures that I have taken of my
teammate are also important because she was ranked one of the best defensive
players of the year averaging about 5 steals every game. She consistently works on her game to get
better and as a leader on the team I feel that she shows the true definition of
working hard and never giving up.
Here is another stretch that we do before every workout to stretch our quads and groin.
After stretching we also do a warm-up. After out warm-up we go into ball handling and it is important that we do this daily to become better handling ball. Daily ball handling increases your finger tip strength, and hand speed, which are important components to become a better ball handler.
This next photo is more ball handling. In this drill my teammate is practicing staying low and dribbling with her head up while running at full speed.
This photo shows her doing a change of direction drill and finishing through the baseline to complete the ball handling workout.
This photo is the beginning of a shooting workout. Here my teammate is in a ready shoot position, waiting to receive the ball to explode up into her shot. It is important to practice good habits when shooting because a great shooter becomes great shooter from repetition.
Here she has caught the ball and is in the upward motion to release the ball.
This picture shows the last step and here she has released the ball and is holding her follow through up.
Not only does basketball require you to work on your skill set, but it also requires strength, agility, endurance, stamina, and quickness. All of these things named require us to workout in the weight room with a strength and conditioning coach. So after a workout we head to the weight room for some more training. In this photo T is doing a roll out progression which is an exercise done to strengthen the abdominal and core area.
Here she is performing a squat. Squats help strengthen your core, quads, but, as well as improve your quickness to explode in a upward motion.
The last and most important part of any workout that is done is hydration. It is important to hydrate to keep the body healthy, and to replenish what the body looses during a workout.

I always like when pictures go along with what someone is saying and you do exactly that. My favorite pictures are when she is in the workout room, very concentrated. These pictures are very crisp as well! Nice job!!
ReplyDeleteI like how you were able to capture her movement and the motion of the ball in some of these pictures. I think it adds a different level to the pictures and gives them a sense of energy. I also really like how all the colors are very bright and vivid which can be really hard to get in a gymnasium setting. You captured a lot of her personality and focus in these pictures. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading this documentary and the captions that went along with the pictures because it gives a step by step process of your workout. It allowed me to see exactly what was going on feel as though I were there. The pictures them self are very well done. The pictures when your teammate is in the weight room shows a better understanding of what you have to do as well as all the equipment that is available for athletes.
ReplyDeleteAs a fan of basketball, I watch a lot of games on TV. However, I never really got an idea of what life is like off the court. It is interesting to see the hard work and dedication put into training for every game. After having read through the introduction and descriptions, I can honestly say that I learned a thing or two.
